Come to beautiful Charleston, South Carolina - rated the #1 city in the world by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. The Cecil Byrne Gallery, home to several of the best pastel artists in the country, will host this wonderful workshop with Alain Picard. The workshop will take place on the second floor of this light filled gallery. The ability to climb one flight of stairs is required. There is no elevator available, due to the historic nature of the building. Limited to 18 students.
Loosen up your landscapes using the painterly approach. Learn to simplify complex scenes into clear shapes, values, and edges. Organize these shapes into strong design and color combinations using bold, expressive marks to interpret your environment for that lush painterly look. Each morning, Alain will demonstrate a painterly approach to the landscape from start to finish. Students will work from their own reference materials, beginning with morning exercises to loosen up your work and learn techniques to simplify the subject. Students will progress to loosely finished landscape paintings by end of day. Weather permitting, one of the days will be spent "en plein air" at a location not far from the studio. A constructive and encouraging group critique will wrap up our three days together.
Information regarding materials, suggested hotels and restaurants will be sent to workshop participants upon registration. We are looking forward to meeting you in Charleston!
A refund is available, minus a processing fee of $35.00, only if we are able to fill your spot in the workshop. If you do need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible at Cecilbyrnegallery@gmail.com. No refunds will be available after January 1, 2017.
